Lesson 32,33,34,35: Experimentation

Starter: Did you meet your weekly targets?
Complete last week's weekly progress tracker and fill in this week's sheet with as much detail as possible. Keep in a safe place as you will be using this sheet each week for assessment progress and more importantly to keep you on track!

Lesson Aims: Continue to develop your work further through the 'What If?' activity to explore new possibilities within your project.

Assessment Objectives: AO1/AO2/AO3/AO4

Lesson Objectives:
1. Complete the weekly progress sheet
2. Complete the 'What If' activity and select 2 options to experiment with this week
3. Create a fresh set of prep work (photocopying, printmaking, collages, line work, Photoshop, etc.)
4. Receive teacher feedback on current work and complete a December review.
Extension: Research our Pinterest board for new techniques to incorporate within your work!

Tasks:

What If? 
Choose 2 'What If?' options from the words on the sheet below (or come up with your own       words!) and use these to develop a new way of exploring your project focus - the aim is to produce a different look on your boards! E.g. Change scale / colour / imagery, etc.


Prep Work
Create a fresh set of prep work in response to your 'What If?' task - this may require photocopying, printmaking, collages, Photoshop work, line drawing, etc. You should also add images of other artists work that may inspire this new work!

Photocopying:
Photocopy your studies - crop, enlarge, change colour, invert, repeat, move it, etc!

Recording:
To be successful at recording you must successfully sketch out ideas, collage, experiment with hand/digital materials to create a range of interesting patterns/marks, include photographs, detailed annotation, etc!

Collage:
Explore collage - you will need to find a range of source imagery to work with before you get started!


Digital:
These are some techniques you could try in Fragment, Brushes and Photoshop to enrich your prep work!

FRAGMENT APP: Use an iPhone/iPad and create quick fragmented studies of photos or prep work! You could use these as base layers, collage or create a new exciting composition!


BRUSHES APP: Create digital paintings or interesting patterns/marks to work on top of!


STENCIL: Create a stencil to cut-out and spray/sponge paint through or layer up on top of colour.





DOUBLE/MULTIPLE EXPOSURE: Use multiple images/studies to layer up and experiment with colour/transparency - you could even heat transfer and use these to stitch into or print out and further work on top!





Homework:
1. Createmin of 3 experimental studies using your 'What If?' options
2. Start recording ideas/processes in details using the above examples as guidance - this includes 'swatches' as before
3. Mount development board by last lesson of the week - including personal annotation
4. Complete and submit concertina book with Personal Study mounted inside by 11th December!

26, 27, 28: Development

Starter: Development Focus
One at a time say how you are going to develop your work further and what area of focuses you are going to explore...



Lesson Aims: To mount artist research and start developing your existing project further through a range of experimental techniques and media.

Assessment Objectives: AO1/AO2/AO3/AO4

Lesson Objectives (during these lessons you will):
1. Select an area of focus to develop across the week and that enhances your current project
2. Mount your artist research onto an A1 board - include visual imagery and annotations
3. Complete a min of 3 confident developmental studies that show clear reference to your new artists
4. Set your target for the week and complete your to-do list for the week
5. Receive 1-1 feedback and review your anticipated final grade.
Extension: Refine any initial responses you have yet to complete.

Tasks:

Initial Responses:
Working from your chosen subject matter you should create a series of drawing/paintings/prints - which ever is most appropriate for you at this stage. Remember at this stage you should be experimenting with a range of materials and approaches.


Development:


Homework:
1. Complete min of 3 confident developmental studies from the week for boards - min size A4
2. Create contact sheet of primary/secondary images and annotate
3. Complete Personal Study - reflecting on feedback and personal investigation handout. Remember that you must use your current work, ideas and artists within your essay!

Lesson 11, 12: Experimentation / Refinement

Starter: Weekly Assessment Sheet

Lesson Aims: To continue experimenting on a large scale and refine studies in lead up to final composition designs.

Assessment Objectives: AO1 / AO2 / AO3

Lesson Objectives (during these lessons you will):
1. Complete the Weekly Assessment Sheet 
2. Complete the 'What If' Activity to take your work in a new direction
3. Receive 1-1 feedback to discuss your progress and ideas
4. Start refining experimentations in the lead up to final composition designs next week.

Tasks:

What If?
Choose two 'What if?' words below (or come up with your own!) and use these to develop a new way of exploring your work. The aim is to produce a new interesting direction in your work: change the colour, scale, imagery, etc. You will feedback what your two words are in two minutes time!
Ideas:
Photocopying: Photocopy your paintings/prints/drawings, etc. Enlarge, crop, repeat, change colour, print onto different materials!

Drawing: Sketch out ideas, collage, find/take new imagery if relevant - it all counts towards AO3!

Collage: Explore collage - you will need to find a range of source imagery to work with before you get started and look on pinterest for inspiration!

Pinterest: Look through our tutorials/ideas board on Pinterest for further inspiration!

Photoshop: These are some techniques you could try in Photoshop to enrich your prep work!

2. Start writing personal study for 1st draft submission Monday 9th November - min 1000 words
3. Complete 3 x studies for the week - you should have 11-17 by now
4. Ensure a min of 2 boards are mounted to a confident for diagnostic review.

2. Min of 2 boards - must include annotation, recordings and a contact sheet.

Lesson 11-12: Target Setting

Starter: Descriptive language!
Using the descriptive language sheet - choose one keyword that describes your peers work...


Lesson Aims: To continue working on development of initial ideas by creating further studies that connect to your jenga literacy targets.

Assessment Objectives: AO1/ AO2 / AO3 


Lesson Objectives (During this lesson we will): 
1. Reflect on one another's work and highlight strengths through descriptive language
2. Select keywords to inform your initial responses
3. Set yourself clear and manageable targets and a checklist for the rest of the week
4. Continue responding to your own imagery through a variety of chosen techniques and media
5. Participate in a peer review / receive 1-1 teacher feedback on work.
Extension: Experiment with 1 new App on a smart device: WordSwag and Fused.


TASKS:

Jenga Literacy:
In groups one at a time select keywords until everyone has 4 keywords or the jenga tower falls...

Target Setting/Setting deadlines:
Set yourself a target for today's lesson and for the rest of the week. Use your jenga literacy words as your focus within your artwork in addition to connecting to your responding to an artist sheet!

Reflect on your targets and set yourself a realistic and achievable objective for todays lesson...


Initial Responses:
Reflecting on your own set targets continue with further experimentation and development of initial responses. Are you on track to meet your targets?


Extension ideas:
Complete a series of creative drawing techniques exploring line and tone:

• Pencil held down (or pen!)
• Smudge (ink  / pen and water)

Lesson 1: Unit 3

Starter: Would you rather...?
In groups each take turns to roll the dice to determine the question you will be asked by your peers. Keep taking turns to build relationships and learn information about your new class! 


Lesson Aims: To begin getting to know each other, to receive an introduction to Unit 3 and to produce a development cycle through reflection from peer feedback. 

Assessment Objectives: AO1 / AO3 / AO4

Lesson Objectives (during this lesson you will):
1. Start getting to know your new class
2. Understand the requirements, workload, dates and deadlines for Unit 3
3. Produce a development cycle to generate ideas for new topic.
4. Participate in peer feedback on concertinas to highlight strengths in work.
Extension: Complete a mind map in response to Unit 3 themes.

Tasks:

Introduction to Unit 3 Brief:
You will be issued with your Unit 3 brief and shown example artist's to introduce you to the themes. We will talk through it as a group, explain what will happen over the next few weeks, outline expectations and answer any questions.

The last 30 mins of the lesson is all about selecting your theme and ensuring you have selected the right one! Reflect on your peer feedback and complete the below sheet to help develop ideas. Look through the example Unit 3 boards from previous students to help inspire you!

You must complete this sheet and confirm with me what brief you are exploring before you start any practical work!

2. Take photographs related to 'theme' and gather relevant secondary imagery

It is important that you reflect on the journey you have been on in your concertina book and write a written review to clearly explain your focus and inspiration for Unit 3!

PLEASE ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: (MIN 250 WORDS)

INTRODUCTION:
Reflect on your ideas sheet / concertina and discuss the different artists/experiments/subject matters you have explored in your concertina and why!

• Write an explanation of the brief selected and why? What techniques/artists in your concertina made you come to this decision?

Discuss the ideas behind the selection for your brief - did it come from a common theme in your concertina? If so, explain! During your concertina you might of discovered a new skill or experimental technique - what are you keen to continue developing throughout your work in Unit 3? 

ARTIST INSPIRATION:

• Discuss the two artists/designers you have selected as inspiration from your concertina...

Reflect on artists you have researched throughout your concertina - how have they inspired you to select your brief? What is it about their work that you are keen to explore further? e.g. subject matter, technique, materials, etc.

CONCLUSION:
This is your opportunity to sum-up your direction for Unit 3 and what you want to continue developing!

• Comment on your focus/direction for Unit 3...

What is your next step? Will you continue to develop/combine certain techniques or do you want to test/research new materials associated to your artists? What photographs are you going to take? What secondary research are you going to explore? Think about your subject matter/theme for Unit 3 and remember to discuss why!

Lesson 5,6: Line Continued

Lesson Aims: To continue developing your work through line by completing further and more refined studies that link clearly to your artist research.

Assessment Objectives: AO1 / AO2 / AO3

Lesson Objectives (during this lesson you will):
1. Focus on creating observational studies
2. Use your observational studies to inform more refined studies
3. Receive 1-1 feedback on your work.

Tasks/Timings:
During the lesson you should be working independently, continuing developments from your primary images. 

Experimenting with materials:
As you develop your work it is important you experiment confidently with materials. Make sure you push each piece to it's fullest limits before moving onto the next study.

Lesson 4: Responding to artists and Focusing on Line

Starter: Responding to an artist




Lesson Aims: To create a series of line studies that explore creative drawing techniques in response to your chosen theme/subject matter.

Assessment Objectives: AO1 / AO2 / AO3 / AO4

Lesson Objectives (during this lesson you will):
1. Reflect on your concertina and highlight the key elements you are taking forward from your artists work into your own studies this week
2. Start working directly from objects/imagery to produce a series of confident studies
3. Take sections of your artwork and experiment with drawing as a method of recording.
Extension: Create blind/continuous line studies in response to your imagery.
